This year, the Hungarian Amateur Radio Association (MRASz) is hosting the MRASz HAM Radio Day for the first time in Budapest, Hungary – an event that not only showcases the professional diversity of the amateur radio world but also offers a true community experience for everyone interested in radio communication.
The day is all about bringing together beginners, experienced amateurs, and curious visitors in one place. There will be lectures, exhibitors, interactive games, programs for children – and perhaps most importantly, opportunities to connect in person, chat, and form new friendships. One community, a thousand connections, endless possibilities.
A Day with Ham Radio Operators
Throughout the day, the event will be buzzing with activity. In the halls, you can attend professional lectures; at the exhibitor stands, you can handle the latest equipment; and in the corridors, lively conversations about radio, antennas, and personal experiences will be everywhere.
The program includes an amateur radio fair, where you might discover hidden treasures, as well as multiple tents and Hungarian HAM clubs offering insights into the life of the amateur radio community. And of course, there will be exhibitors, including us, ANICO Hamshop.
Journey Through the World of Radio – Sessions for All Ages
The sessions invite you on a true journey, from the fascinating history of amateur radio to the technologies shaping its future. Topics include how connections are made from Earth to the Moon, and how the QO-100 satellite can be used as an amateur relay. You’ll also learn about remote-controlled stations, propagation phenomena above 144 MHz, and hear exciting reports from expeditions in Africa.
Other topics cover Grayline propagation, the relationship between PMR and CB radio and amateur radio, the world of SWL observers, and even lightning protection solutions. If you are interested in outdoor operations, you’ll find guidance on SOTA, POTA, or WWFF programs. There will be insights into the work of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (RKSZ), advice on how amateur radio skills can help early-career professionals, and finally, an overview of Hungarian amateur satellites – past, present, and future.
Most of the sessions will be conducted in Hungarian, but they can still be interesting, and you are welcome to ask questions in English about the topics at any time!
Fun for Kids
The MRASz HAM Radio Day is family-friendly, so kids won’t be bored. Young participants (from ages 5–6) can safely try soldering exercises. The braver ones can take on orienteering matrix courses or fox hunts, while curious minds can learn Morse code and try radio communications themselves.
This is truly a day where every family member can find something exciting – from the youngest to the most experienced amateur radio operator.
Games and Sweepstakes
Throughout the day, visitors can participate in fun, radio-related challenges. The event concludes with an exciting sweepstake, where valuable prizes await lucky participants.
